Biography
Liechtenstein emerged in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2005 when Renée Gustafsson, Naemi Pebaque, and Theresa assembled the group, whose bittersweet, reverb-slicked aesthetic drew from foundational twee pop outfits such as Dolly Mixture and Talulah Gosh and aligned them with kindred early-2000s acts including Betty and the Werewolves, the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and Sexy Kids. Their first 7", Stalking Skills, surfaced on Fraction Discs in 2007; drummer Elin Engstrom came aboard near that point, after which the band undertook a year of modest European concerts. Theresa parted ways amicably in mid-2008, mere months before the second 7", Apathy, appeared. The personnel shift left Liechtenstein's forward motion intact, and by early 2009 the trio had issued two further singles via Slumberland Records and Drill Building. Fraction Discs and Slumberland jointly released the band's debut album, Survival Strategies in a Modern World, during summer 2009.
