Biography
Drawing inspiration from riff-driven, high-intensity groups such as Rage Against the Machine and Foals, the Los Angeles alt-rock outfit Liily first surfaced in 2018 within the city’s underground youth circuit. A series of independent singles and an introductory EP preceded their full-length arrival with the 2021 album TV or Not TV, after which several years of touring gave way to a 2024 return via a self-titled EP.
Vocalist Dylan Nash, guitarist Sam De La Torre, bassist Charlie Anastasis, and drummer Maxx Morando formed the group, each hailing from different corners of the San Fernando Valley and Inland Empire. After sharpening their approach through performances at house parties and warehouses around Los Angeles, the four teenagers issued their first official recording in August 2018 with the single “Toro.” The grungy rocker “Sold” appeared soon after, and both tracks were collected on the band’s debut EP, I Can Fool Anybody in This Town, which the Hollywood indie label Flush Records released in March 2019. A further standalone single, “Wash,” followed that September. Once sessions for their debut album concluded, Liily released a run of singles throughout the first half of 2021, setting the stage for the October arrival of the more varied and stylistically wide-ranging TV or Not TV.
By then the band had accumulated substantial live experience, performing at festivals such as Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo while touring Europe and North America. A standalone single titled “Applause” surfaced in late 2022, and the group reemerged in May 2024 with “More,” the lead track from their self-titled EP.
