Biography
Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, the punishing extreme metal five-piece Like Rats serves as the death metal and metalcore side project of the city's power-violence and grindcore unit Weekend Nachos, whose members comprise guitarists Todd Nief and John Regan, vocalist Dan Polak, bassist Andy Nelson, and drummer Drew Brown. Drawing from Obituary, Death, and Entombed alongside present-day blood-spatter acts such as NAILS, Black Breath, and Dead in the Dirt, the group put out two self-titled demos in 2009 and 2010, then paused Weekend Nachos activity long enough to deliver a self-titled debut album through A389 Recordings in 2012.
Following the signing of a contract with Southern Lord, the musicians returned to the studio for their second full-length effort, which appeared as II in early 2016. While balancing tours under both the Like Rats and Weekend Nachos banners across the ensuing three years, the band focused on crafting fresh songs. Late 2019 brought an agreement with the Hibernation label, after which the musicians headed back into the studio and surfaced with the self-produced digital-only album Death Monolith in April of 2020.
