Born Lilly Crozier on 13 September 1951 in Renfrew, Ontario, Canada, the singer launched her musical path in early childhood by forming a gospel duo with her sister. The pair appeared regularly before church congregations and on local television broadcasts. Guitar lessons began at age fifteen and soon led her into a solo career as a contemporary Christian singer-songwriter. She relocated to Michigan, USA, for further musical instruction and afterward joined the Solid Rock Foundation on a tour of Scandinavia. By 1972 she had settled in California yet continued her involvement with evangelical church communities. In the mid-70s she married Kelly Green and entered the Shekinah Fellowship, where he served as Minister of Music. She characterizes her sound as a ‘kind of soul contemporary’, citing songs such as ‘God, A Woman And A Man’—written for her husband and performed at their wedding—as typical examples. Her recording career opened on Myrrh Records with the mid-70s album Especially For You, which received substantial praise in gospel circles.
