Biography
Linda Thorson built her reputation chiefly through work on stage, in film, and on television, where her most widely recognized part came from a late-’60s run on the series The Avengers. Far less recognized is the fact that, precisely when her visibility on that program reached its height, she cut several pop singles for Britain’s modest Ember imprint. Kenny Lynch, already established as a singer and songwriter in the U.K. during the 1960s, oversaw the sessions, which yielded solid examples of pop-soul even if the material remained derivative and undistinguished overall. Thorson herself delivered assured, emotionally credible performances that stood apart from mere celebrity curiosities. In 2005 a seven-track selection from those recordings appeared on the CD anthology A Snapshot of Swinging London, a collection that also features four contemporaneous sides by Twiggy, another prominent youthful figure of late-’60s Britain.
