Biography
Operating under the name Liquid G.—an abbreviation of Liquid Garbage—this Belgian electro-industrial endeavor has been led since 1987 by Peter Van Bogaert, who also records as Peter Punk. Through his own imprint Liquid Produkts the bulk of the output has appeared, most often as limited-run cassettes and CD-Rs assembled by the artist himself. The project’s sound pairs propulsive electronic beats and sequenced rhythms with distorted vocals that channel social and political paranoia. From the outset Liquid G. has upheld a strict D.I.Y. ethos and punk stance, deliberately sidestepping prevailing trends in order to preserve its core aesthetic. Cassette releases and compilation appearances commenced in 1987; live performances followed at Belgian clubs and later at goth and EBM festivals across Europe. A 1989 cassette collaboration with Vomito Negro was issued, and the early 1990s saw the creation of side projects including SubsecTion 1! and Hydrom Line. After entering a hiatus in 1997, the project resurfaced in 2005. Between 2008 and 2014 vocalist and synthesizer player Kim De Laet became a member; during those years Liquid Produkts continued to issue CD-Rs and digital albums while the Italian label EK Product put out Biohazard & Medical Waste in 2011 and Overdose in 2013. In 2015 the American imprint Dark Entries assembled the compilation LP Liquidation, drawing on material from the project’s earliest late-’80s cassettes.
