Biography
Originating in Detroit during 2003, Little Claw formed as an experimental noise-punk outfit that also revealed a gentle acoustic dimension once Kilynn Lunsford and Heath Heemsbergen started performing vocals and acoustic guitar together amid that summer’s Eastern Seaboard blackout. The group expanded by enlisting Jamie Easter of the Piranhas on drums, after which the resulting trio launched into live performances and studio work, sharing bills with acts such as the Bizarros while completing their debut release, Moss Has Fangs, in 2005 alongside Warn Defever of His Name is Alive. Hendrik Deherder assumed drumming responsibilities in 2006, enabling the band to track Spit and Squalor Swallow the Snow inside the living room of Matthew Smith of Outrageous Cherry; the resulting set surfaced as a limited-edition vinyl LP on Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace! label. Following a split single with Michael Yonkers, Little Claw relocated to Portland, OR in 2007, bringing Adam Svenson aboard on drums while shifting Deherder to keyboards and percussion; auxiliary member Damon Sturdivant of Tyvek likewise participated, supplying extra percussion and synth across concerts and sessions. A further single issued on Physical Sewer Records led into the band’s third album, Human Taste, which Ecstatic Peace! released in 2009, the same year Siltbreeze put out the Race to the Bottom single.
