Little Egypt

Little Egypt merges classic hip-hop energy with longstanding East African elements, creating both harmony and tension amid the varied sounds of New York’s independent rap scene. The collective unites Visual Poetics, Forge, Taajwar, Bravestar, and Khordz-255, all of whom revive narrative-driven lyricism once central to golden-era figures such as Slick Rick. Visual Poetics fronts the unit, handles most of its production, and leads their independent imprint East Park Inc., while Khordz-255, serving as keyboardist and vocalist, brings the widest range of musical training and has completed extensive production projects. The group’s initial commercial release arrived as the 2000 single “Sunrise,” followed by their debut album Straight Out the Sands in April 2002. Dynamic performances and recordings quickly expanded their reach to listeners in Brazil, Poland, and Australia. Their follow-up, The Crown Heights Affair, appeared in September 2006 and included two tracks produced by veteran Chubb Rock.
