Biography
Patricia Amphlett entered the world around 1950 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. While still a schoolgirl she began performing vocally and scored an unexpected success in 1963 with the track ‘He’s My Blonde Headed Stompie Wompie Real Gone Surfer Boy’. Her musical direction later broadened into additional genres, where she established an enduring and prosperous path as a vocalist. Mid-1990s sessions paired her with jazz players Errol Buddle, David Seidel and Lawrie Thompson. By then her mature delivery had become fluid, enabling expressive interpretations of the classic standards. A 45-cent Australian postage stamp released in 1998 as part of a series marking landmark moments in rock ‘n’ roll paid tribute to that 1960s recording.
