Biography
After experimenting under multiple performance identities and shifting creative methods, Christina Schneider adopted the Locate S,1 name to pursue her atmospheric work in observational pop and fluid composition. Those initial tracks sparked a connection with Captured Tracks, which issued her 2020 second album Personalia along with the 2023 release Wicked Jaw.
Operating from Athens, Georgia, Schneider explored numerous musical directions while participating in multiple groups and maintaining frequent partnerships; she also issued solo work under her given name and the monikers Jepeto Solutions, CE Schneider Topical, and additional aliases. During the opening years of the 2010s her approach changed often, yet the Locate S,1 outlet allowed her to test the limits of pop. The project’s earliest release arrived as the 2018 album Healing Contest on the Los Angeles imprint Nicey Music. Upon encountering one of her prior cassette recordings, the Brooklyn independent label Captured Tracks signed Locate S,1 in 2019, reissued Healing Contest, and then presented Personalia that April as the next installment in the artist’s distinctively distorted art pop. Schneider handled production alone for the third album Wicked Jaw, pairing direct and emotionally charged lyrics with tracks that moved rapidly across styles; Captured Tracks brought the collection out in July 2023.
