Formed as an emo pop-punk quartet in Chicago’s western suburbs, Logan Square centered on Brad Chagdes handling vocals and guitar, Steve Lyons on bass, and Chris Smith at the drums. The three first connected while attending high school in 2000 and drew influence from the Ataris and Jawbreaker when they started playing together. They began under the name 15 Minutes Late, issuing two EPs and one full-length album before switching to Logan Square. A second guitarist proved an unstable position—Dave Naked of Screeching Weasel held it briefly—until Chris Tiritilli joined in September 2005 and completed the lineup. Around the same period the band signed with California’s Fearless Records. Their first release for the label, Pessimism & Satire, was tracked late that year with Sean O’Keefe, whose credits include Fall Out Boy and Motion City Soundtrack, and appeared in June 2006.
