Biography
Lonnie Plaxico earned an early connection to the M-Base circle yet maintained striking adaptability on bass across decades of work. His first professional engagements placed him alongside Chet Baker, Sonny Stitt, and Junior Cook. A 1982 period in Wynton Marsalis’s group led to further appearances with Dexter Gordon and Hank Jones, after which he entered Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers in the mid-1980s. Plaxico later appeared on recordings by Dizzy Gillespie and David Murray while also directing his own dates for Muse from the late 1980s into the early 1990s. Additional performances brought him together with Steve Coleman, Greg Osby, Bud Shank, Cassandra Wilson, and Don Byron.
