Loser derived its moniker from recollections of John 5’s youth in Grosse Point, MI, where local children labeled anyone performing rock music a “loser.” Born John Lowery, the guitarist—previously a member of Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, and David Lee Roth—formed the group alongside producer Bob Marlette after the pair caught ex-Jibe vocalist Joe Grah onstage and, struck by his dynamic vocals, invited him to join. Early in 2005 the pair recruited Glendon on drums and Charles Lee on bass, rounding out the lineup. Their Island Records debut, Just Like You, had been slated for a 2006 release, yet the project was ultimately shelved once John 5 departed to launch a solo career.
