Perez entered the world as the child of parents from Puerto Rico and Cuba, yet his remarkable musical abilities have stayed hidden from most listeners. Functioning as both composer and highly skilled arranger, he launched his formal training in 1945. Fifteen albums followed, each produced strictly for dance floors. His inventive vision stands out most clearly across three exceptional long-playing records. Actor Patrick Swayze rose to prominence by performing to the track “De Todo un Poco” in the hit film Dirty Dancing. Any release credited to Lou Perez now commands attention from serious collectors.
