Biography
Drawing from impressionistic cinema, the surreal prose of Beat Generation writers, and the fluid phrasing of classic 1950s jazz, Nashville musician Jake McMullen adopted the Louis Prince alias to mark a fresh stage in his artistic path. He fused these sources with falsetto vocals, indie songwriting, and drifting synth lines, shaping the luminous settings of his debut album Thirteen, released in 2020.
Born in California, McMullen later settled in Nashville, where he first recorded confessional Americana under his given name. Seeking a new direction, he partnered with producer Micah Tawlks, and together they developed the Louis Prince endeavor. Referencing film and piano jazz, McMullen started composing songs in 2015, working alongside Tawlks while exchanging ideas with Kevin Dailey and Dabney Morris. Bolstered by these creative allies, he refined the dreamy, genre-defying textures of Louis Prince and issued the debut album Thirteen in spring 2020.
