Biography
Richard Butler, the lead singer previously fronting the post-punk band the Psychedelic Furs, returned to the music scene through Love Spit Love. Following the 1991 dissolution of the Furs, he left his British homeland for New York City and joined forces with guitarist Richard Fortus in 1992 to establish the group, which drew its name from an erotic art exhibit. Drummer Frank Ferrer joined the lineup, and Butler recruited his sibling Tim, another Psych Furs alumnus, to handle bass duties for the band's self-titled debut album released in 1994. This effort yielded a Top 100 hit via the shimmering track "Am I Wrong," yet Imago, their record label, faced bankruptcy shortly thereafter. The sole output during the ensuing quiet period came in the form of a rendition of the Smiths' classic "How Soon Is Now?" featured on the soundtrack for the 1996 movie The Craft. Several years later, after inking a deal with Maverick and installing Chris Wilson in place of Tim Butler on bass, the act reemerged via the 1997 release Trysome Eatone.
