Biography
In their Boston hometown, the seven-piece Lovewhip distinguishes itself by fusing worldbeat strands that stretch from African rumba, juju, and soukous through Jamaican ska and reggae roots to American blues, funk, and punk. Erin Harpe supplies vocals and guitar, Jim Countryman handles bass, Steve Goldmann plays percussion, Nick Sowles and Eric Platz share drum duties, Nancy Loedy performs on alto sax, and Aaron Gelb rounds out the horns on tenor sax; this personnel realizes the band’s self-coined worldpop sound on the full-length debut Whip It Baby, issued in 2000.
