Drawing inspiration from 1990s dream pop and noise pop groups such as Mazzy Star, the Cocteau Twins, and the Jesus and Mary Chain, Low Sea craft their seductive, synthesizer-driven songs. Formed by Irish vocalist Billie and multi-instrumentalist Bobby D, the pair initiated Low Sea recordings during their 2008 residence in the South of France. Their independently issued first full-length, Las Olas, garnered positive critical reception in 2010, with Pitchfork's coverage notably boosting the duo's visibility. Lefse Records, based in California, enlisted Low Sea to produce their second album, The Light, issued later that year. Speculation surrounded the possible release of a follow-up EP in 2011.
