Biography
In 2021 Sacred Bones put out Sounds of the Unborn, an album of abstract electronic soundscapes drawn from prenatal recordings made with biosonic MIDI technology and credited to Luca Yupanqui. The remix set Conversations appeared the following year.
Luca’s mother is Psychic Ills bassist Elizabeth Hart and her father is Argentine musician Iván Diaz Mathé. While Hart was pregnant the couple placed MIDI devices on her stomach, turning the resulting heartbeats, movements, and vibrations into synthesizer tones across five hour-long sessions. Luca was born on November 15, 2019; her parents edited and mixed the material in 2020, after which Sacred Bones released Sounds of the Unborn in 2021. Conversations, containing reinterpretations by electronic and new age artists such as Suzanne Ciani, Nailah Hunter, and Laraaji, followed in 2022.
