Biography
Lucy Shropshire made her first public appearances singing and playing keyboard in church, then enrolled in music and voice studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Following graduation she performed throughout the East Coast before settling in Reno, Nevada, in 1981. Local work brought her the Reno Area Music Award for Best Jazz Vocalist in 1985. She later moved to Bermuda, where her song “Come Together World” took first prize in the United Nations Year of Peace Songwriting Contest in 1986, and she opened for Dizzy Gillespie at Harrah’s Reno Convention Center in September 1990. She relocated to Las Vegas in 1988 and worked there as a singer and vocal coach, appearing in the 1996 production EFX with David Cassidy. In 1998 she recorded with Gladys Knight, and in 2001 she joined a touring production of the Broadway musical Sophisticated Ladies alongside Mary Wilson and the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Her debut album, Jazzy Me!, was self-released after being recorded with the Brian Derek Trio; eleven years afterward, Til Then appeared in 2016.
