Biography
Formed as an alternative rock outfit, Lucy's Fur Coat featured vocalist Charles O. Ware, bassist Rob Brown, guitarist Tony Sanfilippo, and drummer Scott Clark. Early in their existence the quartet was pulled into the 1993 wave of San Diego label signings that erupted while every American company hunted for the next Seattle. In that climate even modestly gifted local scenes were treated as overnight phenomena, and San Diego's pool of talent placed Lucy's Fur Coat in an advantageous position at the outset of their career. Their debut, the 1994 album Jaundice, fell short of the commercial expectations attached to it, prompting the label to drop them soon afterward. After several years the band resurfaced with How to Survive an Airline Crash on Deadline Records; although the record drew favorable notices, its muted public response ultimately led to the group's dissolution.
