Biography
Emerging as perhaps the foremost Afro-Brazilian figure to rise after the middle of the 2010s, Ludmilla quickly attained widespread recognition. Ludmila Oliveira da Silva came into the world in Rio de Janeiro in 1995 and performed at pagode gatherings from childhood onward. Near 2012 she assumed the stage name MC Beyoncé and secured immediate regional popularity as a funk carioca performer. Warner Music Brasil soon secured her contract and urged adoption of the name Ludmilla to prevent association with only one musical category. The arrival of her first album, Hoje, in 2014 initiated an exceptionally prosperous trajectory. Her expansive vocal capabilities and stylistic flexibility aligned seamlessly with funk, pop, and pagode, while her engaging presence and repeated television exposure established her as an impactful public figure and LGBT icon. As the earliest black female Latin American artist to exceed two billion streams on leading global services, she gathered multiple honors across her career, among them a Latin Grammy and a BET Award. Vilã, issued in 2023, stands as her fifth studio album.
