Biography
Luis López, a pianist from Spain still early in his professional path, has brought his performances to far-reaching destinations including Lithuania and Japan while maintaining an active role as an educator.
Born in 1996 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Spain’s Canary Islands, he completed his initial studies at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias, remaining there through 2019 under Francisco Martínez. He then relocated to Poland for lessons with Piotr Szychowski at the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Music Academy in Poznań, where he earned a master’s degree with honors in 2021. During the same period he obtained a second master’s degree, this one in the management of cultural and creative industries, from the Miguel de Cervantes European University in Valladolid, Spain. Additional instruction came through master classes with María João Pires, Guillermo González, Gustavo Díaz Jerez, and several other pianists.
Since 2016 López has worked independently as a piano teacher in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Orotava in the Canary Islands. After completing various internships and teaching assistantships, he joined the faculty of the Conservatorio Oficial de Música Hispano Inglés in 2022 and has also taught at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Turin, Italy.
His concert appearances have taken place in halls across multiple countries, among them the Hachinohe Concert Hall in Japan, the Palazzo Taffini in Italy, and the Aula Nova in Poznań, Poland. At the Cervantes Institute in Tokyo he presented an all-Spanish piano program, and he has performed at festivals in Poland, Italy, Japan, and the United States. Competition successes include first prizes at the OPUS 2021 International Music Competition in Kraków, Poland, and the Eighth International Music Competition in Rome. In 2023 he signed with the Anaga Classics label and issued his debut recording, Albéniz & Granados Piano Works, which received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Classical Recording that year.
