Biography
Luís Antônio began his career performing with regional ensembles such as the Biriba Boys before claiming first prize as Best Singer at the I Encontro Nacional da Jovem Guarda, held as the I Jovem Guarda contest in São Paulo. He earned the Sabiá de Prata trophy on two separate occasions through his appearances at the Festival Internacional da Canção, also known as the International Song Festival. Antônio took part in the motion picture Em Busca do Sucesso, and in 1972 he appeared in Spain alongside Brasil Aquarius while making recordings credited to the ensemble Brasil Aquarius y Luiz Antonio. His version of “Roseana” was featured on the soundtrack of Roberto Farias’s film O Donzelo. He further appeared at France’s Téâtre de l’Oprimée in the production Dans L’ombre, Un Recital. In 1974, Rolando Faria and Antonio established the duo Les Étoiles, which settled permanently in France and remains active.
