During the 1960s Luke Gibson launched his professional singing career by serving as lead vocalist for the Canadian rock band Luke & the Apostles, whose lineup also included guitarist Mike McKenna, keyboardist Peter Jermyn, and drummer Pat Little. While fronting the group he oversaw the release of several singles, the most enduring of which was the 1967 MGM single "Been Burnt."

The act traveled into the United States to open shows for established headliners such as the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane. After the band’s sole hit single appeared in 1967, Gibson left Luke & the Apostles and joined Kensington Market. Over the following two years the new ensemble recorded for Stone Records and Warner Bros., resulting in the full-length albums Avenue Road and Aardvark.

A short-lived revival of Luke & the Apostles took place in 1970 and featured several fresh members. Roughly a year later Gibson stepped out as a solo artist on True North Records, issuing Another Perfect Day in 1971 and Killaloe in 1972. Following those two albums he withdrew from the public eye.
