Hailing from San Antonio, Luke Olson took up instruments and began live performances upon turning eight. His debut recording, Maybe Someday, appeared while he finished high school in Alamo Heights and drew regional praise across Texas ahead of graduation. The 1997 follow-up Southern Skies arrived as Olson built a following on the college circuit, most notably in Lubbock, where he studied at Texas Tech. Current Magazine Music Awards voters named him Best New Artist the next year. He has shared bills with Merle Haggard, Alabama, and the Bellamy Brothers, among many others, and has also opened for numerous additional acts. Within the country/folk/bluegrass community, Panhandle Sunset, issued in 1999, earned stronger notices from both critics and listeners than his earlier work. Olson continues to tour his home state of Texas and, in 2002, entered the studio with Lloyd Maines to cut his fourth album.
