Biography
Featuring James Ardery on vocals, guitar, and synth together with Joel Myers on drums and electronic percussion, the experimental rock duo Lushes call Brooklyn home. Their work under the Lushes name fuses Ardery’s punk origins with Myers’ more academic formation, which encompassed borrowing Rachmaninov and Bach CDs from his classically trained organist father and learning classical piano on his own. Lushes’ debut album What Am I Doing?, produced by Bachelorette’s Annabel Alpers and issued in March 2014, recalls post-rock greats such as Slint and June of 44 while also nodding to contemporaries like Liars and Battles. Myers and Ardery brought in engineer Aaron Mullan along with musicians from Zs, PC Worship, and Parquet Courts to shape Service Industry, a rawer, more confrontational set that appeared in October 2015.
