Lutzenkirchen

Lützenkirchen, a Munich-based techno producer and DJ whose work spans multiple stylistic directions, first gained traction in German clubs from the middle to the end of the 2000s thanks to tracks such as “Daily Disco” and, above all, “Drei Tage Wach.” Born Tobias Lützenkirchen, he issued his earliest material in the late 1990s through numerous pseudonyms across an assortment of imprints, rendering a complete survey of that phase nearly impossible because of the sheer volume of names and the low visibility of several labels involved. His first outing under the Lützenkirchen name arrived in 2005 as the 12-inch EP Daily Disco on Great Stuff Recordings, the Munich imprint run by DJ and producer Tomcraft. The title cut quickly became a club staple, turning up on more than six compilation mixes such as Ministry of Sound’s Clubbers Guide Ibiza ’05 (2005) and Global Underground’s Lights Out 3 (2005); Berlin’s Boys Noize supplied a remix that aligned the track with the rising electro sound of the moment. Further 12-inch EPs followed on the same label—Counterfunk (2005), Knight Moves (2006), Ultrashift/The Killer (2006), Music for the Girls (2007), and Paperboy (2008)—while Lützenkirchen also reworked material for Great Stuff, among them Coburn’s “Give Me Love” (2006), Micky Monzza & Joseph Disco’s “Bounce Baby” (2007), and Tomcraft’s “Boogie Nights” (2008). Activity extended well beyond that roster; he supplied productions and remixes to an array of other labels, including a high-profile 2006 treatment of John Digweed’s “Warung Beach.” In 2007 he launched Platform B Recordings, a platform for 12-inch EPs by both affiliated artists and himself. Larger projects soon appeared, among them the 2007 mix album Electro Food:1 and the 2008 full-length Pandora Electronica, which spotlighted the Top 20 single “Drei Tage Wach,” originally issued earlier that year on Oliver Koletzki’s Stil Vor Talent imprint.
