Biography
Born on November 30, 1977, in Tempio Pausania, Sardinia, Luisa Vittoria “Luvi” De André entered the world as the daughter of Italy’s arguably foremost singer/songwriter Fabrizio De André and vocalist Dori Ghezzi, as well as the stepsister of musician and producer Cristiano De André. Although her lineage was steeped in music, her initial pursuits lay in the visual arts. Her first recorded appearance came in 1996, when she supplied backing vocals for her father’s album Anime Salve. She subsequently joined the tour that proved to be his final outing, an experience captured on the live sets Fabrizio De André in Concerto (1999) and Fabrizio De André in Concerto, Vol. 2 (2001), where the pair performed a duet on the traditional English folk ballad “Geordie.”
Further guest work followed in 2001 on Ivano Fossati’s La Disciplina della Terra, highlighted by their joint reading of “La Rondine.” The next year she contributed backing vocals to her stepbrother’s release Scaramante. In 2003 she appeared at Genoa’s Carlo Felice theater for the tribute concert Faber Amico Fragile, delivering “Rimini”—a performance omitted from the subsequent CD. Her debut solo effort, Io Non Sono Innocente, arrived in 2006; the album was shaped with producers Pietro Cantarelli and Claudio Fossati and featured guitarist Fabrizio Barale of Yo Yo Mundi.
