Biography
Formed by Howard Devoto, the one-time singer and songwriter for Buzzcocks and Magazine, together with Noko, Luxuria operated as a duo. Several years after Devoto’s solo album Jerky Versions of the Dream reached stores, he began collaborating with the Liverpool musician. The pair eventually issued two albums for Beggars Banquet whose sound moved between minimal acoustic backing and dense, dance-oriented rhythms. Unanswerable Lust surfaced in 1988 and met with only modest response, while Beast Box followed in 1990 and demonstrated clear advancement. Singles drawn from both sets registered little movement on the U.K. charts. Once the duo disbanded, a Japanese box set appeared that paired the original albums on CD with a VHS compiling videos for every track from Beast Box.
