Biography
The Lynnfield Pioneers, a trio that labeled its own style “hip-hop-no-wave,” adopted the name of the high-school football squad its members once represented. Singer and Moog operator Dan Cook, guitarist Mike Janson, and drummer John Paul Jones assembled the group in 1995. Their first recording, the Newport EP, appeared on the Lampshop label, and the singles that followed quickly built an underground following, prompting Matador to sign them and release the band’s debut album emerge in 1997. Free Popcorn appeared in 1999.
