Biography
Inspired by a 2008 concert from American avant-garde composer and performer Rhys Chatham, longtime associates and creative partners Farbod Kokabi and Farzad Moghaddam sought to address a gap in Atlanta’s experimental music community. Working initially as a pair across multiple rehearsal rooms, Kokabi on guitars, vocals, and synths together with Moghaddam on bass, vocals, and synths brought in guitarist and vocalist Lee Tesche plus drummer TJ Blake to expand the project. Early opening appearances alongside Deerhunter, Grouper, and Lightning Bolt allowed the quartet to refine a sound blending My Bloody Valentine-inspired shoegaze, dense drones, and Krautrock.
During 2009 the group tracked its first release, Want for Wish for Nowhere, handling both recording and production internally. The self-issued album appeared first in a limited cassette run distributed at shows and through the band’s site. Late in 2010 the members traveled to New York to cut a follow-up at a facility belonging to Ryan Rasheed (Prefuse 73) and Brad Hurst. Those sessions were ultimately abandoned, yet in May 2011 the band entered an agreement with Hurst’s Hoss Records imprint, which reissued the debut album that October.
