Biography
Avant-folkie Lys Guillorn (Liss Guh-LORN) put out her self-titled album in spring 2003 through Connecticut indie Little Cowgirl. Prior to working alone, Guillorn had performed with Danbury, CT-based Jargon Society, the “chamber punk” group that featured cello. On her first solo outing the songwriter took charge of most instruments herself, handling guitars, organ, bells, and melodica. She also worked with producer Jeff Fuerzeig, who recruited contributions from friends such as Stanley Demeski and Brenda Sauter of the Feelies as well as Luna/Galaxie 500 kingpin Dean Wareham. The finished recording emerged as a gloomy, twangy set that recalled the work of the Handsome Family and Cat Power.
