Biography
Peruvian musician M. Caye Castagnetto molds hazy samples into pliable beats, yielding an atmosphere both remote and peculiar that nevertheless radiates an uncanny glow. Over five years went into shaping the pieces that would become Leap Second, their first album, issued in 2021.
Although born in Peru, Castagnetto divided adulthood across homes in California, London, and Lima. Partnerships with many musicians and artists prompted a cut-and-paste method for building tracks, in which recordings of live acoustic sources were reshaped into unfamiliar timbres. Assembled through prolonged effort from layered samples and melodic fragments, Leap Second appeared on Castle Face Records in January 2021.
