Biography
Among the first wave of calypso artists to reach listeners in the United States, Macbeth the Great emerged as an early standout. He settled in Harlem, directed the 12-piece Creole Rhythm Boys, built a strong following across New York City, and cut sides for the Monogram label throughout the 1950s. Even as the late-'50s commercial calypso surge gathered momentum, his output drew acclaim for its authenticity, and additional recordings appeared on the Time label. Renowned percussionist Ralph MacDonald is his son.
