Biography
Dennis McKay came into the world on 23 September 1969 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Imitating Michael Jackson onstage at school concerts began when he was ten. Guitar and piano proficiency arrived by his twelfth birthday, yet his earliest stage role was as bassist in a neighborhood gospel ensemble. He balanced those part-time performances with studies in accounting. After qualifying, Jamaica’s economic constraints limited job prospects, so he turned to driving a taxi. Live work on the North Coast hotel circuit soon followed. Forming the Rebel Raiders, later shortened to the Raiders, secured a long-term residency at the Sandals resort in Ocho Rios. Original songs started appearing by 1997, among them the radio hits ‘Never Give Up’, ‘Who Is Your Friend’, ‘Money And Power’, ‘Don’t Blame Me’, ‘Understand Each Other’ and ‘What If’. Support slots for Jay-Z, Shaggy, Gregory Isaacs, Half Pint, the Mighty Diamonds, Mr. Vegas and Yellowman kept his name circulating. Further singles ‘Mad World’ and ‘Overtime’ helped sustain his presence through the new millennium.
