Madooo

Indian-born pop vocalist Madhukar Chandra Dhas, who performs as Madooo, spent his childhood in Chennai under his father’s expectation that he would pursue medicine. While enrolled at boarding school he started the band the Voodoos, and his studies at Madras Christian College sparked an interest in art. After completing his education he relocated to Bombay and joined an advertising agency, where he eventually advanced to art director. The firm’s managing director also produced theater and gave him the lead role in a 1974 staging of Jesus Christ Superstar that toured India for eighteen months. Still employed in advertising, he fronted Atomic Forest before shifting to solo engagements at hotels throughout India and other parts of Asia. At the beginning of the 1980s he emigrated to the United States and established himself in New York, maintaining his advertising career while continuing to develop his music. In 2002 he independently issued his debut album This Day Is Forever, which featured the track “This Day Is Forever (The 9/11 Memorial Song).” Two years later he released the Beatles tribute album To the “Fab Four” from Liverpool…A Tribute from India.
