Having received her training in France, where she launched her professional career with a series of local engagements, flutist Magali Mosnier embodies the French conservatory approach to her instrument. She has served as principal flutist of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France since 2003. Born in 1976 in the central French city of Montluçon, she began studying the oboe at age seven before changing to the flute and entering the Conservatoire National de Région de Lyon, followed by the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris under Pierre-Yves Artaud and Georges Alirol. Her first orchestral position arrived in 1996 with the Orchestre Symphonique des Jeunes d'Île de France, after which she joined the Philharmonie de Chambre de Paris. In 2001 she achieved recognition by winning prizes at the Leonardo International Competition in Lorenzo, Italy, and the Jean-Pierre Rampal International Competition in Paris, an event long regarded as essential for aspiring French flutists. The 2003 appointment brought frequent concerto engagements, and she has since performed abroad with ensembles such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonia, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Stuttgart Philharmonic, and the Potsdam Kammerakademie. Festival appearances have included Mostly Mozart at Lincoln Center in New York and the Salzburg Festival in Austria, while an ECHO Klassik prize naming her Young Artist of the Year in Germany strengthened her standing beyond France. Active in chamber settings, she has worked with Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, the Quatuor Ebène, the Quintette Moraguès, Michel Dalberto, and soprano Sandrine Piau. On the Sony Classical label she issued the 2006 album Fantaisie, devoted to French flute repertoire and featuring the Flute Concerto of Jacques Ibert. In 2018 she joined several leading French chamber musicians on the Harmonia Mundi release Les trois sonates: The Late Works, a Debussy anthology.
