Magda Hiller, a jazz singer and guitarist, has collected several honors for her recordings and live work, among them Best Solo Performer, Best Acoustic Performer, and Best Independent Release. Her commanding vocals pair with assured instrumental command to shape distinctive performances. Although jazz anchors most of her material, she regularly folds in blues, folk, and traces of hip-hop phrasing. By 2001 she had issued two full-length albums, Nothing But and Delicate Cycle, whose track lists include “Family Planning Day,” “Slow Dance,” “Not Consciously Baby,” “Too Much,” “Crackerjack,” “Start Over Again,” and “Mighty Big Love.” Hiller keeps a steady touring calendar across the United States, appearing at festivals, coffeehouses, and clubs alike. Her recordings have drawn notice in multiple print outlets, and she has opened shows for Richard Elliott, Michelle Shocked, Bob Dylan, the Badlees, Dan Fogelberg, Huey Lewis, and Al Steward.
