Biography
Based in Nottingham within the United Kingdom, Magic Car quickly recognized the growing fascination with early American folk traditions interpreted by modern performers. Phil Smeeton serves as the group’s frontman and primary songwriter, joined by Hazel Atkinson on vocals, Dave Langdon handling pedal steel guitar, and John Thompson on bass. Various musicians have contributed as guests to Magic Car recordings, among them Gareth Bailey, Rick Kemp, Ross McDougall, Stevie Otter, and Jim Walker. Their sophomore effort, the album Yellow Main Sequence, earned acclaim across the UK and received exposure in the United States. Prior to this, the ensemble collaborated with the eclectic indie rock outfit Scott 4 for a concept album that garnered varied critical responses.
