Active since the mid-2010s, Magic One has evoked the style of Marvin Sease and Charlie Wilson while carving out his own space within the Southern soul-blues scene. Born Duane Marquez Harris, the singer and songwriter launched his recording career under the guidance of T.K. Soul. In 2014 and 2015 he appeared on several of T.K. Soul’s holiday-themed releases and issued his own singles, among them “It’s the Weekend” and “One on One/I Can Do Magic.” Those songs, joined by 2016’s “The Baddest” and 2017’s “High Heels & Jeans,” paved the way for the 2018 album The Magic Show; an alternate version of “High Heels & Jeans” featuring Vick Allen, Avail Hollywood, LJ Echols, and Wendell B. helped raise the track’s profile. Two years later One returned with The Magic Show II, a grittier collection that included guest appearances by Fat Daddy and Crystal Thomas.
