Biography
The Stockholm quartet Magic Potion combines slacker charm with a sonic blend that bridges classic '90s American indie rock and gritty '60s garage, standing apart through unconventional lyrics alongside songs built on strong hooks.
Early in 2015 the group surfaced with its first single, "Deep Web," presenting a relaxed, sun-drenched example of good-natured stoner pop. The Stockholm-based four-piece soon attracted the attention of its local imprint PNKSLM Recordings, which released the debut EP Melt in summer 2015. Recorded by the band itself onto analog reel-to-reel tape, these loose and unsteady slacker tracks earned favorable notice, prompting vocalist/guitarist Gustaf Montelius, drummer Andreas Sandberg, bassist Kristoffer Byström, and guitarist Johan Harrius to begin work on a full-length debut. The band again handled recording and production duties, yielding the Pink Gum LP that appeared in spring 2016. After extensive touring across Scandinavia and Europe, the group issued the track "Rest Yr Skull" in 2017 and then turned to a second album. Taped in the rehearsal space, the new material arrived with a somewhat tighter feel than the debut while remaining equally catchy. Once more self-produced, with mixing credited to Byström, Endless Graffiti was released in October 2018.
