Born in 1998 and raised in Clearwater, Florida, Mags Duval cultivated a pop vocal approach that merged up-to-date textures with an older-school aesthetic. While still a teenager she made her opening bid for recognition. She started composing material at nine and picked up guitar on a fifty-dollar acoustic found at a flea market. At thirteen she recorded a demo in a neighborhood studio that drew label interest and occasioned her first trip to New York City. Her parents backed her gifts and determination yet insisted on an ordinary childhood, so young Duval split her schedule among classes, peers, and a developing career. Several songwriting sessions in Nashville, Tennessee, came next, after which the family relocated to the Music City in 2012; she obtained her first management and publishing contract the following year. In 2016 she worked with producers Luke Laird and John Hill on her debut single, “Stay Lonely,” which found an audience through streaming services and was succeeded by “Cinnamon Gum,” “Pink Cadillac,” and “Plain Jane.” A complete album was anticipated before the close of 2017.
