Alessandro Nunziati, recognized for his roles as Lord Vampyr and Cain within Theatres Des Vampires, initiated the occult-metal project Malamorte during 2009. Its sonic identity drew upon the visual atmosphere of classic Hammer Horror productions alongside the diabolical approach associated with Mercyful Fate. The band first appeared in 2014 through the black metal-oriented The Fall of Babylon, after which Hell for All and Mass Cult Suicide reflected a deliberate move toward the early NWOBHM foundations laid by Judas Priest and Black Sabbath.

A cornerstone of Italian heavy metal, Nunziati rose to prominence in the late 1990s by co-founding and fronting the gothic metal outfit Theatres Des Vampires under the name Lord Vampyr. Following his exit from that ensemble in 2004, he issued material as Lord Vampyr while establishing the occult-focused groups Cain, Lord Nailed God, and Shadowsreign. Malamorte took form in 2009 as the outlet for his ongoing refinement of a King Diamond-inflected Satanic metal style. Its 2014 debut arrived as the searing, black metal-driven The Fall of Babylon, with the comparable Devilish Illusions following in 2016. The 2017 album Satan Goes to Heaven to Destroy the Kingdom of God adopted a majestic, doom-centered framework that integrated power metal and NWOBHM traits, a direction continued on the praised 2019 release Hell for All. Both God Needs Evil in 2020 and Mass Cult Suicide in 2021 emerged via Moribund Records and upheld the same trajectory.
