Biography
Emerging from Britain's early-'90s garage-rock milieu, the short-lived all-female outfit Mambo Taxi fused garage textures with punk, pop, and dance elements throughout their brief career. The band, known only by first names, featured Delia—formerly of Cornershop and later with Family Way and Baby Birkin—handling guitar and vocals, alongside Ella on vocals and guitar, Andrea on keyboards, Lenie on bass, and Karin on drums; the latter position was eventually taken by Anjali of the Voodoo Queens. Mambo Taxi issued the single "Prom Queen" in 1992, the four-song EP "Poems on the Underground" in 1993, and the single "Do You Always Dress Like That?" in 1994, as well as the album In Love with Mambo Taxi that same year, before the group disbanded later in 1994.
