Hailing from New York, indie rock outfit Man on Earth channels influences spanning Radiohead, U2, and Pink Floyd to craft what they describe as an “introspective and experimental rock spectacle.” Far less self-serious than the phrase suggests, the group’s sincere and expansive debut full-length arrived in 2004 under the ironic title Disposable Sounds for the Fickle Mind, at which point Steven Nathan (vocals/guitar), Ron Ferrante (guitar), Myles Ouziel (bass/piano), and Alex Giacari (drums) aligned with independent Forward Thinking Records. The Man on Earth EP surfaced in 2006, followed by Something Better the next year in 2007, The Time Spent Wondering in 2009, and the striking Things They’d Never Believe in 2011. A 2012 collection of early tracks titled In Case You Haven’t Heard appeared just as the band launched recording sessions for the successor to Things They’d Never Believe.
