Biography
The English trio Man Raze, which fuses alternative, post-grunge, and hard rock approaches, assembled around the abilities of longtime rock veterans Phil Collen of Def Leppard, Paul Cook from the Sex Pistols, and Simon Laffy, formerly of Girl. During 2004, while Collen stayed in London to look after his ailing father, he and longtime friend and former Girl bandmate Laffy began exploring the concept, though the project only crystallized once Collen crossed paths with drummer Cook. An eclectic combination of raw punk drive, pop hooks, and dub-kissed post-grunge first surfaced on the 2005 EP Skin Crawl. Critics together with fans viewed the trio as far more than a vanity project, leading the group back into the studio to capture a full-length debut. That effort, Surreal, appeared in early 2008.
