Biography
The Chilean blues-rock outfit Mandrácula came into being after Banda del Capitán Corneta dissolved, having already tracked its opening album Perros Dias for the domestic imprint Alerce in 1994. In 1996 the freshly constituted Mandrácula entered a deal with BMG and released the EP Estoy Llegando Muy Cerca. A later return to Alerce allowed the group to cut its self-titled album in 1998. Recognition arrived the same year when the Chilean Songwriters Association (SCD) honored the band for Best Rock Performance. The collective’s first MTV Latino exposure arrived through the video for “Buenos Muchachos,” helmed by Alfredo Silva.
