Mann, who stood out as one of the few West Coast rappers on Def Jam’s predominantly East Coast roster, secured his deal with the label at just 18 years old. A native of L.A., he trained in acting and dance throughout high school, performed with several local hip-hop crews, and later pursued an individual path. He first affiliated with the A2Z Entertainment agency in 2008, then finalized his arrangement with Def Jam a year afterward. The imprint put out his 2010 singles “Text,” which featured Jason Derülo, and “Buzzin’,” which included 50 Cent.
