Biography
Hailing from Sevilla, Spanish singer-songwriter Manuel Cuesta absorbed the core traits of the Latin genre Canto Nuevo, alternately labeled Nueva Canción. Its hallmark sound consists of understated melodies performed by a lone vocalist supported only by acoustic guitars, with lyrics that meditate on existence and human experience while occasionally addressing broader social themes. Holding Silvio Rodríguez and Joan Manuel Serrat in particular esteem, Cuesta turned first to romantic ballads and issued the 2000 album Perfil De Juglar, which contains a track drawing directly from Ricardo Franco’s film Lágrimas Negras.
